Regarding what I mean by the Jewish religion
When I mention Judaism as a religion I am excluding Christians who identify as Jewish such as Messianic Jews except where clearly specified in a small section of the text
Regarding what I mean by Contemporary Judaism and why "Orthodox" Judaism is contemporary
By contemporary Judaism I am including not just Reform, Reconstructionist, Humanistic and Conservative Judaism but also "Orthodox" Judaism as it is practiced today at the date of writing this article indicated by the copyright at this end. The Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds were written later than the Christian new testament so "Orthodox" Judaism which is based on the Talmuds and on Maimonides and or Rashi who were born after the writing of the Talmuds is actually newer than the oldest forms of Christianity in my opinion. Much like in Judaism, the oldest forms of Christianity are not taught by any of the self labeled "Orthodox" Christian religions either. The oldest forms of Christianity are probably not taught by any large (or perhaps even small) Christian denomination existing today. Many Orthodox Jewish traditions such as avoiding cross symbols on the basis of shunning Christian theology could not have existed prior to Christianity. The tradition of avoiding the cross symbol could have existed prior to Christianity but the reason currently given for the tradition could not have. This means that parts of the oral tradition did not predate Christianity and "Orthodox" Judaism is not Orthodox. "Orthodox" Judaism also has many rules regarding electricity which could not have pre-existed certain inventions as they are not honestly implied by any proper understanding of the texts that pre-existed the inventions.
According to the most popular contemporary Jewish religions all religious Jews are part of the Jewish Tribe but not all members of the Jewish Tribe practice the Jewish religion
The most popular sects of religions labeled as Judaism in contemporary times teach there is a Jewish religion and a Jewish race or perhaps more technically a Jewish tribe. A tribe maybe a better term than race because being part of the Jewish tribe can be determined by either ancestry or ritual where as if it was purely a biological race you could not gain the title of Jew by a ritual. A woman who was not born a member of the Jewish tribe may join the Jewish tribe and bestow the tribal title of Jew to some of her descendants without those descendants needing to practice a Jewish religion. A woman who is part of the Jewish tribe bestows the tribal title of Jew on both her sons and daughters but a man with that tribal title does not bestow the title to his children unless he procreates with a woman who has the Jewish tribal title.
There might not exist a Jewish race in biological reality but only a Jewish religion that classifies people as being of the Jewish race or not of the Jewish race. However there might be a high correlation between religious beliefs and ancestry and or a high correlation between religious beliefs and race in the cases of Shintos, Hindus, Jews and Muslims.
The State of Israel and rabbis keep certificates to decide who is racially Jewish b.ased on the religion of their female ancestors but you do not change DNA when you change religion. Having a female ancestor who was not born racially Jewish based on some biological criteria that is physically objectively measurable who suddenly converted to Judaism would not biologically have her DNA change to be able to pass on Jewish DNA to her children if they were born after her conversion but her children would be considered racially Jewish for legal purposes because she was religiously Jewish. How could they be considered racially Jewish legally? Because they would be legally treated as Jews even if they did not practice the Jewish religion. They of course would not be biologically racially Jewish based on objective DNA criteria but only legally racially Jewish. In this case race is a social construct with no biological basis. That might be why they are sometimes called a tribe instead of a race, so they can discriminate based on ancestry without discerning or discriminating based on biology or religious life style choices. Now I am not denying the possibility of multiple biological breeds of humans or human races that are all part subsets of a single human species. Instead I am suggesting your ancestor changing their religious title would not modify your DNA anymore than them changing their professional career or job title or first or last name would.
I am going to go with the assumption that there is no biological Jewish race but that the belief in a Jewish race is simply a tenet of some of the members of contemporary Jewish religions.
I will refer to people not as being members of the Jewish race or tribe but instead as being labeled as members of the Jewish tribe by people of the Jewish religion in order to make the clear point that this labeling is a social construct with no biological basis in reality.
Chabad admits their is no such a thing as a Jewish gene and if there is no such a thing as as a Jewish gene it might mean there is no such a thing as a biological Jewish race or breed.

On the other hand if biological race or breed is never determined by a single gene but instead as a function of how multiple genes interact to produce a set of phenotypes that can be analyzed objectively to determine a race or breed based on a dichotomous key then their could be a certain race or races that are highly correlated with the Jewish religion.
Being "White" or "Black" may have some biological basis in reality unlike being Jewish in that an individual as a result of their ancestors being isolated in a cold dark European climate or a hot sunny African climate may have developed different genetic composition to adjust to the climate over many generations through natural selection but that both White and Black people are of the same species being able to reproduce with each other but maybe of different races or breeds having genetically distinct differences in skin which allow better survival in each of their respective climates. Individual Jews maybe biologically White humans or Black humans but can not be biologically Jewish. There might be some additional human breeds or races that adapted to the middle East climate that you could call olive humans but olive humans would not be a biological religion but another biological race within the same species as black humans and white humans. If there was a race of olive humans not all people who practice the Jewish religion would be of the olive race but they would have a wide variety of races all within the same human species.

There might be a biologically measureable percent of ancestry of a historical figure named Jacob the grandson of Abraham who lived in the middle East near where Syrians and Palestinians and Egyptians live today in diffetent nearby regions at different times in his life. If such a historical figure existed the closer to where he lived the higher percentage ancestry of this individual someone would be more likely to have. In such a case Palistinians, Syrians and Egyptians would most likely typically have a higher percentage of ancestry from Jacob than Ashkenazim and Sephardiim given that the Palistinians, Syrians and Egyptian ancestors most likely primarily stayed in that geographic region for thousands of years where as the Ashkenazim ancestors were much farther North in Europe and historical Soviet Block Countries and the Sephardiim also were in Europe.

If there is any correlation between biological race or ancestry and religion it is probably stronger with the Hindi religion and Indian ancestry and the Shinto religions and Japanese ancestry than it is with the Jewish and Muslim religions and semetic ancestry or Ashkenazic ancestry or Sephardic ancestry or Arab ancestry, etc.
There is nothing wrong with being classified as a member of the Jewish tribe by religious Jews if you do not choose to practice the Jewish religion
I have no malice to individuals based on their ancestry as being part of a Jewish tribe or race. Being given a title as a member of a Jewish tribe or race by someone of the Jewish religion does not mean someone is any worse than someone without that racial or tribal title in my eyes.
Being given a title as a member of a Jewish tribe or race by someone of the Jewish religion does not make someone automatically racist. But choosing to label someone as a member of the Jewish race or as a member of the gentile/goyim race might indicate the person supplying the label is racist. And if your religion classifies people as being one race or another with no biological basis in reality it might mean your religion is racist.
It is the person who gives the socially constructed and biologically fictitious label that is racist not the person who receives the label.
The most common contemporary Jewish religions teach to box people into tribal or racial groups but people who are labeled as part of the tribe but not part of the religion do not necessarily box people into tribal or racial groups in the same manner that contemporary religious Jews do
Being a part of one of the popular contemporary Jewish religious sects however is a different matter in that the dogma or doctrine of the most popular contemporary Jewish religious sects teaches to categorize people as either racially/tribally Jewish or not racially/tribally Jewish. This makes the popular contemporary variations of Jewish religions inherently racially or tribally obsessed by dividing people into two racial or tribal categories as a tenet of their religion. People who practice the contemporary Jewish religion divide everyone into two racial/tribal categories Jews and Gentiles/Goyim.
Someone can be labeled as a member of the Jewish tribe by people of the contemporary Jewish religions without being a tribally/racially obsessed individual so long as they do not choose to practice the popular contemporary versions of the Jewish religion. But someone can not practice the popular contemporary versions of the Jewish religion without being a racially or tribally obsessed individual because a tenet of their religion is to classify people as either in the tribe or out of the tribe. In most cases being classified as inside the tribe is on the basis of their biological ancestry with only rare and difficult to obtain exceptions for conversion. Even if for example a woman did convert (after she was born but before she had given birth to any children) all the cases of her biological children being classified as inside the tribe would be based on them having a biological ancestor who converted and not based on whether or not they practiced the religion.
Obsession with boxing people into Tribal or Racial Groups does not necessarily always mean someone will act with bigoted discrimination policies or have bigoted viewpoints but in cases where 100% of the Talmud text and or the Rambaum's writings is promoted to be obeyed and believed it would because of the bigoted sections
In some cases I only call this tribal/racial obsession instead of tribal/racial bigotry because maybe in some branches of Judaism that are less focused on the Talmud and the Rambaum/Maimonides someone may merely designate someone as part of the tribe/race without discriminating against them which I would guess would be more often the case in reform Judaism than in orthodox Judaism but I could be wrong about that.
Ironically, some "liberal" Jews who do not openly glorify the Talmud with their words as much as the "orthodox" do are so obsessed with avoiding racism that they actually promote racism in the name of stopping racism such as promoting discrimination against people who are not "black" in order to counter act racism against "black" people through affirmative action type policies. It may very well be that many reform Jews disliking the tribalism/racism taught by the so called Orthodox Jews accidentally promote racism in their extreme reaction to try not to be racist like the so called Orthodox Jews. Other people have speculated more nefarious motives that they are not trying to help "black" people at all and just saying they are to justify policies to harm "white" gentiles/goyim but I am open to the possibility that they are simply misguided and not malicious against "white" gentiles/goyim.
Although some Jews might not promote bigotry, any Jew that glorifies the writings of the Rambaum and the Talmud(s) are promoting tribal/racial bigotry and or religious discrimination knowingly or unknowingly depending on if they are just praising the greatness of these writings to fit in with Jewish society without knowing what they say or if they actually have read the material enough to be familiar with the bigotry inherit in their teachings.
The reason I say that by glorifying the Talmud(s) and the Rambaum they promote religious discrimination and or racial and or tribal bigotry is because the Rambaum and parts of the Talmud taught bigotry against people who are Gentiles/Goyim. Now if they say some parts of the Talmud and some of the things the Rambaum said are great except certain parts that promote racial or tribal bigotry than that individual might not be promoting racial or tribal bigotry. But I have never heard a individual that self identifies as an "Orthodox" Jew say some parts of the Talmud are factually wrong or some parts of the Talmud should not be obeyed or followed. Next time I talk to an Orthodox Jew I should ask them if they believe everything in the Babylonian and or Palestinian Talmud is factually accurate and if everythimg in it should be followed as a guideline for life or only part or maybe even none of it.
The Jew Shakak pointed out bigotry in ancient Jewish texts
Shahak further suggests that the Jewish tradition values Jewish life more than Gentile life. He cites Maimonides’ assertion that whereas one who murders a Jew is subject to the death penalty, one who murders a non-Jew is not (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Murder 2:11). According to another leading commentator, indirectly causing the death of a non-Jew is no sin at all (Rabbi Yoel Sirkis, Bayit Hadash, commentary on Bet Yosef, Yoreh Deah 158).

Shahak believes that the 12th-century philosopher and talmudist was a Gentile-hater and racist. He quotes Maimonides’ statement that, "their [the Turks and the blacks] nature is like the nature of mute animals, and according to my opinion they are not on the level of human beings" (Guide For the Perplexed, Book III, Chapter 51).

It does not matter if gentiles/goyim originally refered to the faith or to the ancestry of the individual either way reading the text from contemporary Jewish eyes will teach discrimination against people who are not in the Jewish Tribe.
Hypothetically if in the past someone could practice the Jewish faith without being considered a member of the Jewish race or tribe by the writers of the Talmud(s) then the Talmud(s) could simply endorse religious discrimination against gentiles/goyim without endorsing racial or tribal discrimination against them.
But in popular versions of contemporary Judaism someone who converts is automatically considered a member of the Jewish tribe. Therefore it is not possible from the perspective of the common contemporary Jewish religions for either the Palestinain or Babylonian Talmuds to prescribe discrimination against people who are not members of the Jewish religion without automatically also prescribing discrimination against people who are not members of the Jewish tribe because no such people exist who are members of the faith but not the tribe in the minds of the common contemporary Jewish religion practitioners.
It could be possible to discriminate against someone who is a member of the tribe but not a member of the religion but it would be impossible to discriminate against someone who is a member of the religion but not the tribe because in their mind such an individual does not exist.
However they would not discriminate against someone who is a member of the tribe but not the religion without also discriminating against someone who is not a member of the tribe and not a member of the religion. That is if they discriminated against individuals of Jewish ancestry who did not practice the Jewish religion they would certainly also discriminate against Gentiles/Goyim who did not practice the Jewish religion.
I am not familiar enough with Rashi to know if he also promoted racial or tribal bigotry or merely only religious discrimination but should look into that more
As for if Rashi another famous Jewish teacher taught racial or tribal bigotry I need to look into that more although my guess would be he did unless his commentaries on the Talmud(s) said not to believe, follow or obey any tribal/racially bigoted sections of the Babylonian or Palestinian Talmuds.
Legal Jewish status matters in Israel in regard to priveleges of free trips to Israel called Aliyah, living in Israel without being deported, difficulty or ease in receiving citizenship and many other factors.
The policies of the State of Israel discriminate against both race and ancestry. Regarding race because more difficult criteria are usually required for individuals of "black" appearance to be legally considered to be of Jewish ancestry. Regarding ancestry because people can legally be recognised as Jewish if they practice Christianity and have a legally Jewish ancestor but not if they practice Christiainity (including messianic Judaism) and do not have a legally Jewish ancestor.
Anyone with a mother who is legally considered Jewish according to certain standards set by the government of Israel is automatically considered Jewish even if they practice another religion such as Atheism or (types of) Polytheism (other than monolatry or henotheism) or flagrantly disobey moral teachings of the Jewish religion and flagrantly say things that contradict Jewish religious teachings.
If someone does not have a Jewish mother and wishes to become a Messianic Jew who worships Jesus Christ the State of Israel does not recognise them as Jewish, but if someone has a Jewish mother they can practice any Christian religion and be legally recognised as Jewish by the State of Israel for some legal purposes that someone without a Jewish mother practicing the same religion would not be.
Someone without a Jewish mother who previously self identified as Christians or was identified by others as Christian (such as being made to go to Church as a kid by their parents and being called Chrustian by them) can undergo a conversion process to be legally recognised as Jewish by the State of Israel but they must verbally denounce Jesus Christ and denounce Christianity, agreeing verbally not to practice Christianity as part of the conversion ritual.
Someone who has a mother who is legally Jewish can practice Christianity and legally be recognised as Jewish by the State of Israel in regards to some things but someone who does not have a Jewish mother and practices Christianity can not.
In this way the State of Israel classifies if someone is Jewish on the basis of ancestry. The State of Israel innately divides people into categories of being of Jewish ancestry or not of Jewish ancestry and discriminates against people who are not of Jewish ancestry who have also not converted to the Jewish religion. Someone who the State of Israel classifies as being of Christian religion and Jewish ancestry receives special legal priveleges that someone else who the State of Israel classifies as being of Christian religion and non Jewish ancestry does not receive.
If two biological parents are considered to be the same race as each other then their biological children are usually considered to be the same race as their parents therefor discrimination based on ancestry is correlated with discrimination based on race. I think treating someone malevolently who tries to live a benevolent lifestyle on the basis of ancestry they did not choose might be called racism by some people. To people who use that criteria the policies of the State of Israel and the the most common contemporary sects of "Orthodox" Judaism are racist. Some people could argue the policy is not technically racist because it discriminates based on the religion of your biological ancestors not the biology of your biological ancestors. However the policy strangely seems to have a racial twist of discrimination against "Black" people or more technically against people with ancestry from the majority "Black" country of Ethiopia. The State of Israel makes the legal requirements more difficult for Jews of Ethiopian ancestry who usually look "black" than for Jews from other region who are more likely to appear to be "white."
"In this test, a person would need to prove their claim to be Jewish to an investigator beyond a reasonable doubt. They would need to present original documentation of their matriline up to their great-grandmother (4 generations),[104] or in the case of Ethiopian Jews, 7 generations back."
Conversion is no easy escape from the ancestral discrimination inherant in the policies of the State of Israel and the policies of ancient Jewish religious texts to discriminate against non Jews
The most common contemporary Christian and Muslim religions make it easy to avoid discrimination against religious outsiders by allowing people of any race to convert and become an insider but contemporary Judaism in the form practiced by the Israeli Government not only discriminates against people born in the wrong Tribe but makes it incredibly difficult to convert in order to avoid further future discrimination for those not "born Jewish."
One can not easily escape from this ancestral discrimination by converting unlike most popular Christian denominations and sects of Islam who encourage or are neutral about conversion, many so called Orthodox Jewish Rabbis and the Rabbinical courts go out of their way to make conversion difficult. This makes it extremely difficult to escape ancestral discrimination policies through conversion. For example there is a tradition to reject someone wishing to convert at least three times. People who wish to convert must follow rules to achieve Jewish legal status that individuals without Jewish mothers do not. And even after succesfully converting sometimes individuals are viewed as second class Jews based on their ancestry.
Some Jews argue that the difficulty to convert that Rabbis present potential converts with are from the benevolent motive of sparing people the burden of having to follow difficult Jewish religious rules that they would have to follow if they were just given a certificate of Jewishness. But being given a certificate of Jewishness does not have to necessarily require anyone to follow rules since those with a Jewish mother are certified as Jewish even if they do not keep any of the rules. The only reason the burdensome rules required to legally convert exist are because the rabbis and the State of Israel put them thete. If they did not choose to create the burdensome rules for converts then converts would not be required to follow burdensome rules therefore giving converts burdensome rules does not spare them from burdensome rules.
Now if someone with a Jewish mother wishes to be legally recognised not just as Jewish but as "Orthodox" Jewish they might be required to follow extra laws just like the convert does but to be merely legally recognised as Jewish by the State of Israel converts are given many extra requirements that individuals "born Jewish" are not.
The arguement of making conversion difficult in order to spare the difficulty of having to obey extra rules after converting being out of concern for non Jews is even more problematic when you consider that ancient Jewish texts teach Jews to discriminate against non Jews. If they really were concerned about the well being of non Jews then contemoorary "Orthodox" Jews would not promote religious texts that prescribe descrimination against non Jews. One should not have to convert to Judaism to avoid being discriminated against by "Orthodox" Jews if the contemporary "Orthodox" Jews really have non Jews best interesr in mind when making conversion to Judaism difficult.
The most popular Christian denominations and Islamic sects want to encourage people to join and or consider them a member of the religion so long as their beliefs and or behaviors meet certain criteria and do not exclude people based on ancestry.
For example some who self identify as Muslims claim to believe all you need to do to become a Muslim is to sincerely say the Shahaadatayn or Shahada. Muslims generally encourage people to say the Shahada (at least if one is not claiming to do so insincerely) rather than discourage them to do so. Many Muslims say if you have a Muslim father you are automatically born with the status of being Muslim but do not say you should not or can not become a Muslim if you do not have a Muslim father. Muslims generally do not say I want to go out of my way to prevent people without Muslim ancestors becoming Muslim. In fact, many Muslims try to encourage as many people as possible to become Muslims.
Some who self identify as Christians merely claim to believe you have to say a prayer sincerely to become a Christian and try to persuade people to say that prayer sincerely and instead of discouraging people of other ancestries from becoming Christians, go out of their way to get as many people to say that prayer sincerely and become a Christian as possible.
Some who self identify as Christians claim to believe you must have a change of mind in which you become born again to become a Christian. People of such beliefs generally do not discourage people from being born again if they do not have the proper biological ancestry but rather instead may give many speeches to people about how you must be born again.
Some who self identify as Christians say if you believe the right beliefs you will be a Christian. Such individuals generally do not say I want to make sure people who do not have Christian ancestors do not believe the right beliefs to become Christian but rather instead many of them go out of their way to share what those beliefs are.
Many self identified Roman Catholics claim to believe you should take a certain class, do certain rituals, believe certain beliefs and sometimes live a certain lifestyle to enter their group. Some self identified Roman Catholics believe you must continue to believe certain beliefs, do certain rituals and live a certain lifestyle to maintain status as a non ex-communicated member of their group where as in other cases self identified Roman Catholics may claim to believe once you become a Roman Catholic you always are a Roman Catholic. Self identified Roman Catholics generally do not discourage people without Roman Catholic ancestors who want to from taking the class doing the rituals, believing the beliefs and living the lifestyle if you do not have Roman Catholic ancestors in fact they go out of their way to have such classes available and have priests and sometimes lay people readily available to try to help people to live the lifestyle and be able to do the rituals and learn the beliefs if they choose to do so. Some self identified Roman Catholics do not try to pressure people to take such classes to become a Roman Catholic but do not pressure them not to either, but none the less try to ensure the classes are available. Other self identified Roman Catholics try to pressure people to take the classes and become Roman Catholic but in contemporary times most people who self identify as Roman Catholic do not claim to try to prevent people without Roman Catholic ancestry from completing the requirements to be designated as a Roman Catholic by their organization or instituition.
Some Christian denominations are named after historical jurisdictions of countries which are correlated with ancestry of nationality such as Greek orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Roman Catholic (Rome used to be a country), Ethiopian Orthodox, Anglican (Church of England), and so on. Some people from these groups may sometimes consider someone raised by parents who practice that religion to be automatically included as members by ancestry but generally do not go out of the way to prevent people who do not have ancestors designated as members of their religion from joining their religion.
For example some people who are self identified Roman Catholics say they believe that if someone who is a Roman Catholic parent baptises their child in a certain ritual or the child performs certain rituals as part of their life experience being raised by the parents that that child automatically is a Roman Catholic fot life even if they do or believe things that will result in them going to Hell. Some of these people believe once you become a Roman Catholic as a child you are always a Roman Catholic as an adult but not guarenteed to be "saved" or avoid going to Hell and that you can go to Hell will retaining a status as a Roman Catholic. Although such individuals who I have talked to include people as members of their religion by ancestry they do not exclude people as members of their religion by ancestry. If asked if you can or should or may convert they do not generally discourage people from converting or joining and usually are neutral about it or encourage people to join. The closest thing to discouragement they may do is to warn people about certain difficulties you may experience as part of the religious lifestyle of their particular religion. But they do not really mention the difficulties to discourage them from joining or converting but rather instead as a presentation of information. And the presentation of information is often followed by saying something like, that if you are ok with those difficulties and want to do so then you should join or convert. Warning them of difficulties they might encounter after converting does not provide an obstacle to conversion where as saying no to conversion multiple times which Rabbis often do is providing an obstacle to conversion.
The automatic inclusion by ancestry by people with national Churches does not imply amcestral discrimination to the degree present in contemporary Jewish religions and Israeli State policies when extra obstacles to entry are not added or not added to such a strenuous degree and when amcestral inclusion is based on ritual participation, coming of age rites, education and or training as a child rather than just beimg granted status because of who your biological mother is even if no ritual is performed by the parent(s) and or child.

As of 2010, anyone who immigrated to Israel after 1990 and wishes to marry or divorce via the Jewish tradition within the state limits must go through a "Judaism test"[105] at an Orthodox Rabbinical court. In this test, a person would need to prove their claim to be Jewish to an investigator beyond a reasonable doubt. They would need to present original documentation of their matriline up to their great-grandmother (4 generations),[106] or in the case of Ethiopian Jews, 7 generations back.[107] In addition, they should provide government documents with nationality/religion shown as Jewish (e.g., birth/death certificates, marriage documents, etc.).
In the case of people whose original documents have been lost or never existed, it may take a lot of work to prove they are being Jewish.[108] The court rulings are not final, and any clerk has the power to question them[109] even 20 years later, changing one's citizenship status to "on hold", and putting them in jeopardy of deportation.[110]

I have to admit, I’m angry. I was brought up Jewish, attended a Jewish school, and have only known Judaism as my religion.
